Easy Ways To Help Your Child Be Healthier & Happier

Do your children love sweets? Are they addicted to their games console? Would they prefer to eat pizza than peas? Don’t worry; that’s all perfectly normal. However, as a parent, it’s your job to ensure that your kids grow into happy, healthy adults. To do that, you need to teach them the importance of taking their health seriously.

 

This isn’t always easy, especially when your child has an aversion to all green foods, despite it being their favorite color. The good news is that you can help your child to become healthier, it’s just a case of being smart about how you go about it.

 

Trick them into eating their five a day

 

The body needs at least five servings of fruit and vegetables each day to be healthy. If your child refuses to eat their greens, trick them into eating them. Make sauces for foods from scratch and blend lots of different vegetables into them. Make homemade ‘chicken’ soup packed with vegetables. Make homemade ‘ice cream’ with Greek yoghurt and fresh blended fruit. For breakfast, serve them a fruit filled ‘milkshake’. You get the idea – make getting fruit and vegetables into them easier, by being creative with how you serve it.

 

Stop driving, start cycling

 

Help your children to get in better shape by swapping the car for bicycles. Whenever you’re heading to somewhere close by, leave the car at home and hop on your bikes. The journey might take longer, but it will help you and your children to be healthier. Research also suggests that kids who exercise regularly, tend to be happier and do better at school.

 

Swap shop bought snacks for homemade ones

 

Shop bought snacks are packed full of all sorts, from processed sugars to trans fats. That’s why, if you want your kids to be healthy, it’s best to make their snacks from scratch. Instead of buying cereal bars, make them yourself at home. Don’t buy cakes and tray bakes, make them yourself. Hummus and other dips are packed full of fat and empty calories, not to mention some nasty preservatives. To make them healthier, make them yourself. Dips and sauces are actually surprisingly easy to whip up. Your kids won’t be able to tell the difference, so don’t worry about that.

 

Encourage them to play team sports

 

One of the best ways to encourage kids to be more active is by getting them to join a sports team. Whether it’s football, hockey or cricket, it doesn’t matter. There are so many health benefits, as well as developmental ones, of being part of a sports team. If there are no teams in your area, consider starting one yourself. Arrange practices, plan matches, hold tournaments – make playing team sports fun for your kids. For games and events, you could even get personalised medals online for the winning team. If you want your child to become healthier, enrolling them in a sports team is a great idea.

 

Spend your free time being active

 

Don’t be one of those families that spends weekends in front of the television. If you want your kids to be happy, healthy individuals, be an active family. On the weekends, go for nature walks in the woods, head to the park for a kickabout, take them to the beach for a swim. If you make an effort to be active, your kids will follow suit.

 

Being a parent isn’t always easy. There are always going to be struggles. What’s important is how you deal with them and overcome them. If your child hates vegetables, don’t stress, find a way around the problem. Be creative and you can help your child be healthier and happier.
